I was going to make one side of the sea floor just colorful plants and very bright and the other side just darker plants with little light. Once I got them all in, the task remained to adjust them into a good organized random. I also played around with having dirt and dust on top of the notes. I thought, given the environment they are in surely some dust would make it all look more natural. I ended up settling for very little. I do like this image. For me it reminds that we are all dust from the ground, enabled for a short time to sing. To sing something that outlives the event of our lives. It’s branches are far too slender to support its own leaves in the wind. The branches are twisted and curled in upon themselves. The tree is tangled up, and the blue sky shows through. I remember placing so many plants by hand and adjusting rocks so many times. For me, it’s easy to have tunnel vision and lose sight of the big picture. This image has two terrains, I think in the final there are four plus a very large terrain spreading out into the ocean just under the surface. I was having trouble with the ocean color. I wanted the ocean to be transparent up close but deep blue way out. To fix that, I used a reflective terrain called a “sea plate”. By placing it under the water line the water color became much more deep blue. The idea was that a sand bar or a small island is both constructed and then deconstructed over time by the natural elements. For me, there is a parallel to how God constructs and deconstructs people over time, shaping them into their final form. In the poem, I refer to God as “the Shaper”, shaping us through His Spirit, His Word, natural law and circumstances into the image of His Son, Jesus Christ. This early version of “Sea of Nazarene” was a real breakthrough for me. I liked it enough to buy a canvas wrap of it. So I switched render settings to a very wide angle panoramic setting. These types of renders always take a lot of time. The 3D clouds are complicated things to render. Next time you’re outside, look up at a cloud and contemplate how you could figure out it’s surface area or calculate it’s volume. Yet that is what we are asking of the computer.
